Helping the Community, Helping Each Other

The volunteering spirit to help others is alive and well in the Mothers & More Dekalb chapter. Whether we're aiding our own members or others in the community, there is always someone willing to lend a hand.

Pregnant?
After that baby gets here, the last thing you need to think about is cooking. Chapter members have the benefit of our CARE outreach, which coordinates other members to provide meals to the new mom and her family.

Friends for New Members
The FRIENDS coordinator makes sure that each new member to the chapter is matched with another member to make them feel welcome. Your friend will call or email, and will try to meet up with you at an event to help break the ice.

Reaching Out to Our Neighbors
Mothers & More Dekalb is engaged in hands-on, physical, people-oriented volunteer projects which help people or organizations in need. By reaching out to other mothers, children, and families who need our help, we make a step towards changing the stereotype of mothers at home, as well as working to make our city a better place.

One recent project included collecting baby books, toys, and products for a women's shelter. Another favorite outreach is our Easter and Halloween trips to Briarlake Nursing Home. Our children benefit from interacting in a multi-generational setting, and the residents' day is brightened by their young, vibrant visitors.

Community Service Event

Our June community service project is Grady Hospital.

The Grady Health System Perinatal Department would like to pass out Mommy-To-Be Gift Bags to the expectant mothers coming in for their check-ups.

Mommy-To-Be Gift Bags should include some of the following items:

1. Lotion
2. Nice Socks (new)
3. Journal Books
4. Pens
5. Nail File (Foam)
6. Appointment Book

I can pick up the items at one of our June meetings and take them to Grady to the contact person down there. I have lots of trial size lotions and stuff that I always take from hotels and stuff, so basically anything you have that's available in mini-sizes would help.
